From Basement Blueprints to Your Gaming Setup
Every Glistco accessory starts the same way: with a problem that needed solving. When I first started 3D printing gaming accessories in my Toronto basement, I wasn't thinking about building a brand — I was thinking about how to make my PS5 setup look and feel exactly the way I wanted it to. That obsession with getting the details right is still at the heart of everything we make today.

In this post, I'm pulling back the curtain on how we design and manufacture our PS5 Pro accessories — from the first sketch to the finished product sitting on your shelf.
Step 1: Identifying the Problem (and the Opportunity)

Every product we make at Glistco begins with a real frustration — either one I've experienced personally, or one our community has flagged. Before we design a single component, we ask: What's missing? What could be better? What would a serious gamer actually want?
Take our Black Plates Replacement Shell for PS5 Pro. The PS5 Pro's stock white shell is iconic, but it's not for everyone. We heard from hundreds of gamers who wanted a cleaner, blacked-out aesthetic without sacrificing the precision fit of the original. That feedback drove every design decision we made.

Step 2: CAD Design and Prototyping
Once we've locked in the concept, our design process moves into CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software. This is where the real engineering happens. We model every curve, every tolerance, every snap-fit clip to match the exact geometry of the PS5 Pro — down to fractions of a millimetre.

Getting the fit right is non-negotiable. A replacement shell that doesn't sit flush, or a mount that wobbles, isn't a Glistco product. We run dozens of digital simulations before we ever print a single prototype.
Our Vertical Stealth Mount for PS5 is a great example of this precision-first approach. The mount has to hold your console securely at the right angle, manage airflow, and look intentional — not like an afterthought. That took over 15 prototype iterations before we were satisfied.

Step 3: SLA vs. FDM — Choosing the Right 3D Printing Technology
Not all 3D printing is created equal, and at Glistco we use both SLA (Stereolithography) and FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling) depending on what a part demands.

- SLA printing uses a UV laser to cure liquid resin layer by layer. It produces incredibly smooth surfaces and fine detail — ideal for parts where aesthetics and surface finish matter most, like our replacement shells and skins.
- FDM printing builds parts by extruding melted filament. It's stronger and more durable for structural components — perfect for mounts, stands, and anything that needs to bear weight or repeated stress.
For something like our Skates for PS5 Pro and Slim, we need a material that's both low-friction and dimensionally precise — so the skates glide smoothly without any play or rattle. That's a job for SLA, where we can dial in the geometry to within microns.

Step 4: Material Selection and Finishing
The material we print with is just as important as the design itself. We test every material for heat resistance (your PS5 Pro runs warm), UV stability (so colours don't fade), and impact resistance (because controllers get dropped).
Our Middle Skin for PS5 uses a flexible, textured material that grips the console's midsection without leaving residue or damaging the original finish. Getting that balance of grip and gentleness took months of material testing.

After printing, parts go through a finishing process: sanding, curing, quality inspection, and in some cases, painting or coating. We don't ship anything that we wouldn't be proud to have on our own setups.
Step 5: Quality Control — The Glistco Standard
Every batch of accessories is inspected before it ships. We check for dimensional accuracy, surface finish, colour consistency, and fit. If something doesn't meet our standard, it doesn't go out the door — full stop.

This is one of the real advantages of designing and manufacturing in Toronto: we have direct control over every step of the process. We're not waiting on overseas factories or dealing with quality drift across production runs.
